The council has received an official letter of offer for £3.5million of funding for its Valley Park redevelopment project.
The park is to be transformed over the next 15 months through the creation of a civic linear park, an adventure play park and new state-of-the-art sports facilities.
At Monday night’s Development Committee meeting, elected representatives applauded when the local authority’s Director of Development, Majella McAlister, confirmed that the funding offer had been received from the Special EU Programmes Body.
Cllr John Scott praised officers and staff for their efforts in progressing the ambitious £3.9million shared space project, work on which is due to be completed by July 2015.
Meanwhile, a public consultation event to discuss the redevelopment plans will take place at the Valley Leisure Centre on Thursday, May 15.
There will be an afternoon (2pm - 3.30pm) and evening (7pm - 8.30pm) session.
Anyone wanting to register for the event should contact Wendy or Vicky on 9034 0060.
