The council’s Leisure Committee has approved the installation of a range of outdoor gym equipment at Loughshore Park, Jordanstown and Lilian Bland Park, Glengormley.
The council has secured almost £20,000 of Public Health Agency funding for the equipment, which will be similar to that installed in Hazelbank Park last year. It will be available for members of the public to use free of charge.
Welcoming the funding, Cllr Tom Campbell said: “The park at Hazelbank has had these outdoor gym equipment fixtures installed and I welcome the fact that in agreeing that these should be installed in the Jordanstown Park and Lilian Bland Park we are enhancing these excellent local amenities.
“The outdoor gym is suitable for all fitness levels and helps to promote a healthy lifestyle, something many of us are not often enough engaged in.”
The decision to install the gym equipment at the two locations still has to be ratified when full council meets on January 27.
