With many more people realising the benefits that regular exercise can bring, getting fit has never been more popular.
Some people like the indoor gym option and others prefer to exercise outdoors in the fresh air through running, walking, cycling etc.
With outdoor equipment recently installed in parks throughout the borough, people can now do a gym workout for free while getting the benefits of the great outdoors.
The gyms are located at Hazelbank, Loughshore and Sixmilewater parks and have been provided through joint funding from the Public Health Agency and Newtownabbey Borough Council.
Alison Bennington, the council’s Leisure Services Manager commented: “The outdoor gyms offer an alternative to the indoor option and provide the same mix of cardiovascular, strength and toning equipment. They are suitable for everyone over 14 years of age, all fitness levels and you don’t need to have any gym experience to use them as a set of user instructions can be found at each station.
“Working out has never been easier, with more and more people fitting an outdoor gym workout into a walk or even a trip to the play park with the kids.”
