The Valley Leisure Centre will undergo a makeover with major improvement works being carried out over the next few months.
The pools at the Valley closed temporarily on Friday to allow for major and essential repairs in the plant room to get underway. The works are required to replace the water heating system and pipework and install a new water cleaning system and are expected to finish end of March 2014.
Swimming lessons will resume in April 2014 and regular users of the Valley pools are reminded of the swimming facilities at Sixmile Leisure Centre in Ballyclare.
As a continuation of the renovation works carried out at the front of the building earlier this year, the toilets in main reception will also see an overhaul. A refurbishment will see the existing toilets and wash hand basins being removed and replaced with new facilities.
Similar works will be carried out on the toilet facilities in the swimming changing areas and these are expected to take approximately six weeks.
Stephen Bartley, operations manager at the Valley commented: “It is unfortunate that the pool facilities will be closed for this period of time, but the works are essential in order for the pools to be operational for the foreseeable future. With the pools and their systems being 40 years old, there have in recent years, been ongoing problems with pipes breaking and water leaking.
The refurbishment works in the toilet facilities will bring them up to date. and in line with the facilities that are currently available in the fitness suite and the works overall, will improve the facilities at the Valley Leisure Centre as a whole.”
