300 free bins

THE council spent more than £6,000 on repairing or replacing household bins for local residents over a four month period, it has been revealed.

Last November councillors agreed that any reported damaged wheelie bins should be repaired/replaced free of charge for a limited period (December 2008 - March 2009).

At a recent meeting of the council’s Environment Committee, members were informed that a total of 339 bins were replaced and 79 repaired at a cost of just over 6,000.

According to the council’s website, the cost of a new bin is around 40, with reduced prices for senior citizens.
