BALLYCLARE'S GRAVEYARD WEDDING

A GRAVEYARD wedding is unusual to say the least but last weekend Ballyclare Cemetery became one couple's dream venue for their nuptials.

The couple from Newcastle in County Down exchanged their wedding vows in a ten-minute ceremony held by a graveside in the cemetery at 12.30pm on Saturday, August 28.

Dawn Vasey (49) and Eugene O'Sullivan (43) tied the knot at Dawn's mother Kathleen's graveside after Eugene had an "unusual vision".

"It wasn't something I or Dawn would have ever considered but it's just the way it happened," said Eugene, talking about the couple's chosen marriage venue shortly before the ceremony.

"I'd talked to Dawn's dad who said she and her mum had been very, very close when she was alive. She passed away eight years ago.

"But when we got talking some time later about where to get married, out of the blue it popped into my head that it should be in the graveside beside Dawn's mum.

"I had never been to the graveyard before. I asked Dawn if her mum's headstone was blue, if it had wings and if there was a bend at the place where she was buried.

"I wrote it all down on a piece of paper for her."
