Caitlyn hits billboards for Fashionweek

STUNNING Templepatrick teenager Caitlyn Leckey has been chosen as one of the signature faces of Northern Ireland's Fashionweek.

The advertising campaign for next month's big event kicked off this week and is quite literally stopping traffic right across Northern Ireland as four models' beautiful faces - including Caitlyn's - stare out from huge roadside billboards and buses.

Caitlyn, aged 15, caught the eye of Cathy Martin, Fashionweek Director, in a picture of her taken by top photographer, Khara Pringle.

Cathy said: "I love seeing fresh, exciting faces on our catwalk, and Caitlyn definitely has that X-factor that we were looking for."

Fashionweek runs from October 29 in the Belfast City Hall where Caitlyn will be joined on the catwalk by many other high profile models including former Miss Northern Ireland Kirsty Stewart, and previous Miss UKs, Lucy Evangelista and Gayle Williamson.

Caitlyn, who is excited to have been chosen said: "Friends and family have been sending me text messages saying they love the pictures, and I have noticed people have been recognising me when I go out. It's completely unexpected."

The Belfast Royal Academy pupil who is studying for her GCSEs, said she thoroughly enjoyed modelling.

"I've been getting quite a few jobs over the past year and am really looking forward to the catwalk modelling I'll be doing during Fashionweek," Caitlyn told the Times.

"It's great fun meeting everyone involved in the shows, it's exciting, and it pays good pocket money for a teenager, but I am aware that it is not the only thing I do, in that modelling isn't what defines me.

"It has however, opened a lot of doors for me so far, and allowed me to meet famous names like the designer, John Rocha, and to travel and have a lot of new experiences.

"I really enjoy dancing and singing and am a member of MT4Uth which is a musical theatre group, so I also spend quite a bit of my spare time doing stuff like that."

Caitlyn's mum said modelling at such a young age had helped her daughter develop a degree of independence and of self which would be unusual in a normal 15-year-old, as well as equipping her with many positive life skills like application, self-discipline, good timekeeping and how to relate to people from all walks of life.

"Modelling can be a bit of a dicey world for a teenager, but at the moment Caitlyn is really enjoying it and gaining a lot of positive things from the experience," said her proud mum, Alyson Hogg.

This year's Fashionweek promises a jam-packed, fashion filled schedule, including catwalk shows, master classes, exhibitions and pop up beauty boutiques.
