Church gifts special wheelchair to Scott

MEMBERS of a local church marked Valentine's Day with a practical show of love this year.

Members of New Mossley Presbyterian presented a life-changing gift to a very special teenager in their congregation, at the close of morning service on Sunday, February 14.

14-year-old Scott Osprey suffers from cerebral palsy and will be confined to a wheelchair for life.

Recently however, his lifestyle was greatly improved when he enjoyed the use of a stand-up wheel chair.

That meant Scott was able to take part in many activities that he simply could not have participated in before, particularly around his home where he lives with mum and dad Debbie and Gordon and younger brother and sister, Robbie and Jessica.

Unfortunately the wheelchair had to be returned as it was too expensive for Scott's family to purchase.

However, members of Scott's church got together with the local community and raised over 12,000 to buy the special wheel chair that was handed over to Scott in a surprise presentation on Sunday morning.

"The overwhelming generosity to Scott and our whole family has been absolutely amazing," said Scott's mother, Debbie.

"This new wheelchair will allow Scott to become so much more independent. He always wanted to make tea for his friends and wash the dishes and now he will be able to do that.

"Just being at the same height as everyone else and being able to look people straight in the eye will make a huge difference.

"And for me, as his mum, to be able to hug him as he's standing up is a wonderful new experience.

"Words can't convey the thanks of all our family to everyone who has helped, but I hope that Scott's beaming and smiling face says it all."

Minister of New Mossley Presbyterian, Rev. Ian McDonald added: "The generosity of everyone has been overwhelming."
