Ciara's powerful image shows how the Bible is still relevant
A LOCAL student was among the winners in the recent 'Capture' photography competition run by The Bible Society in Northern Ireland.
Belfast High School pupil Ciara Lawlor took the runner up prize in the Year 10 category with her powerful black and white image entitled 'New to the Streets'.
The new competition for Key Stage Three pupils attracted entries from across Northern Ireland.
The young photographers were tasked to produce images showing how the Bible is still relevant in today's society.
A wide range of entries were received, demonstrating the relevance of the stories of Abraham, Moses and Ruth. Ciara's prize-winning image demonstrated how the book of Ruth can help someone feel part of a new society.
The judging panel was made up of Rev Edmund Mawhinney, a Past President of the Methodist Church in Ireland, newspaper photographer Bob Torrens, and Leah McKibben, Projects Manager with The Bible Society in Northern Ireland. Winners were selected based on both their interpretation and photographic quality.
"All the entries were of a very high standard and showed that a great deal of thought and time had gone into the work. The Bible Society would like to congratulate all those who took part," said Leah McKibben.
