DOG ATTACK HORROR

A GLENGORMLEY pensioner has recalled a terrifying ordeal during which she and her pet dog were mauled by an out-of-control bull terrier.

On the morning of Wednesday, August 11, Queens Park woman Myrtle Helm took her two dogs to Corr's Corner for a walk along the path leading to Mossley railway halt. However, what should have been a pleasant stroll with her much-loved pets soon turned into a horrific nightmare.

"I was taking the two dogs for a walk at Corr's Corner and I let them out of the car and this dog, I think it was some sort of bull terrier, came rushing out of the bushes and jumped on Cindy and started mauling her. It wouldn't let go. It just kept mauling her," Mrs Helm told the Times.

"I tried to get it off, but it wouldn't let go. A man came over and started to hit it with his umbrella, but it didn't budge.

"A young guy, maybe about 20, came out of the New Mossley estate on a bike and said that someone had left the gate open and let the dog out. That's all he said and then he just grabbed the dog by the collar and hauled it off. It was covered in blood.

"I was in hysterics. Cindy was just lying there torn to pieces, I had bite marks all over my hands and on my leg from where the dog attacked me when I tried to get it off Cindy, but he didn't even stop to help me," she added.
