A NUMBER of events have been cancelled due to the adverse weather conditions which have caused chaos and misery to many thousands of people on Friday morning (March 22).

The Mayor’s Search for a Star competition, scheduled for the Abbey Centre tomorrow (Saturday, March 23) has been rescheduled for Tuesday, March 26 from 7pm to 9pm in Mossley Mill.

Also scheduled for Saturday was a family fun day in Glengormley which will be reorganised for another date and the Mallusk Community Action Group has had to cancel its clean-up of the village, also planned for Saturday.

Snow and heavy winds wrecked havoc across the borough with homes left without electricity, schools closed and traffic chaos bringing misery to many commuters.

Northern Ireland Electricity has said it is working to restore power to thousands of homes and the police have closed the Collin Road in Ballyclare because of the adverse weather conditions.

Motorists have been advised to drive with caution and to leave extra time for their journeys.

The snow has also caused disruption to bin collections in the borough. A council spokeswoman advised residents to leave bins out for collection for either Saturday or Monday.
