Father vows to ‘bring son home’
Glengormley man Joe Murphy was joined by a large crowd of family and friends at the vigil for his missing son, Joby.
THE father of a missing Glengormley man has vowed to continue searching for his son and to “bring him home”.
On Friday night (February 10) a vigil was held for Joby Murphy who has been missing since he fell into the icy waters below the Lagan Weir footbridge in Belfast three weeks ago.
Joby had been out with friends at a Snow Patrol concert in the Odyssey Arena and later went drinking in one of the nightclubs at the complex.
He was last seen struggling to get into an anchored boat in Belfast Harbour after falling from the pedestrian bridge at around 1am on Thursday, January 26.
For two weeks following Joby’s disappearance search teams combed the shores around the harbour and the sea bed in the hope of finding the 20-year-old’s body.
And on Friday night, hundreds of Joby’s friends and members of his family held a vigil for the Elmfield man at the spot where he was last seen on the bridge.
“The service was great,” said Joby’s father, Joe. “It really was lovely, the amount of people there was tremendous, people just packed the bridge.”
