Firm staying silent over new store rumours
The former Woodsides building in Ballyclare.
DISCOUNT retailer Home Bargains has refused to be drawn on speculation linking it to a potential move into Ballyclare.
Rumours have been circulating that the nationwide retailer is planning to open an outlet in the town in the new year.
It’s thought the chain’s management may be eyeing up the former Woodsides building on Granges Street as a potential site for its Ballyclare expansion.
A spokeswoman for Home Bargains, which has a store near the Abbeycentre, said they “could not comment either way” on the speculation.
Ballyclare MLA Paul Girvan told the Times: “At the moment it is just speculation but they have not ruled it out.
“But any retailer considering Ballyclare has to be welcomed as it is far better than an empty property.
“It is encouraging there are people willing to invest in Ballyclare. And it’s important that we encourage more retailers into Ballyclare which will in turn bring in more shoppers and more jobs, which is vitally important at this difficult time.”
Ballyclare Chamber of Trade said it would not comment on the matter until more details were forthcoming.
