Free lecture series to accompany Anne Frank exhibition

DUE to the phenomenal response to the Anne Frank (+ You) exhibition running at Newtownabbey Borough Council's headquarters, a series of free lectures has been added to accompany the event.

The lectures, taking place at Mossley Mill, will have a peace and reconciliation theme, with a special event taking place on International Peace Day (September 21) when co-founder of Children in Crossfire, Richard Moore, will be speaking about his experiences.

There will be three lectures in the series, starting with co-founder of the Anne Frank Trust, Gillian Warnes MBE, entitled The Legacy of Anne Frank (pictured) on Tuesday, September 14 at 7pm and Wednesday, September 15 at 1pm for local schools.

On Tuesday, September 21 Richard Moore of Children in Crossfire will speak about forgiveness. There will be a schools only event at 1pm and a public lecture at 7pm.

In 1972 Richard was shot with a rubber bullet that left him blind. He will talk about how he forgave the soldier that fired the shot.

The lecture series concludes on Tuesday, September 28 at 1pm (schools only) and 7pm with Dr. Leon Litvack, a child of Holocaust survivors, who will be speaking about 'Holocaust - the Second Generation'.

Cathy Cole, event co-ordinator said: "I am thrilled to be able to add to this already popular exhibition with our lecture series.

"The exhibition runs until the end of September and is free, as are the lectures. Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis so I would advise people to book early."

Seats for the public lectures can be booked via the box office by calling 9034 0202.
