GLENGORMLEY FILM-MAKER MAKES FESTIVAL CUT

A YOUNG Glengormley film-maker is set to showcase his talent at an International Film Festival later this year.

Seeing off competition from hundreds of budding UK directors, Michael Lennox, 21, recently won the right to direct an episode of 'My Imprisoned Heart' and his work is due to be screened at Edinburgh's International Film Festival in August. The annual event is noted by critics as one of the true homes of innovative and exciting cinema.

Michael's team was one of ten selected from across the UK to produce a different episode of the film production as part of the UK initiative, 'Make Your Mark in Film'. The project is aimed at encouraging young people to be enterprising and to make their ideas real.

'My Imprisoned Heart' tells the story of a young woman who uses her talent as a performance artist to wreak revenge on her ex-boyfriend.

The cast includes highly acclaimed Irish actor Gerard McSorley (The Constant Gardener, In The Name of The Father, Veronica Guerin, Braveheart), Hollyoaks star Alex Falkowski, and Deborah Bouchard who has starred in television's Coronation Street and Cold Feet.

Michael spent most of last weekend filming at various Belfast locations and at Pots of Coffee cafe in Ballyclare.

"We are all extremely excited about filming the Belfast episode of 'My Imprisoned Heart'," he said. "It is a fantastic opportunity to be involved in such a distinguished project and we look forward to seeing our work screened at the Edinburgh Festival. We are privileged to be representing Belfast and hope to showcase the talent and creativity of contemporary Northern Irish Film-making."

Stewart Till Chairman, UK Film Council, said: "Film-making is the most collaborative art form and needs enterprising people at every stage - it is all about overcoming obstacles and making it happen. I believe this is echoed by the Make Your Mark in Film initiative, it's a great idea and I look forward to seeing the final series."

Michael studied Moving Image at the Belfast Institute of Further and Higher Education from 2004 to 2006 and is currently working as a freelance film-maker. He has carried out work for various organisations including Coca- Cola, The Cinemagic Film Festival and Studio-ON.

He also has an impressive back catalogue of short film development. Last year his 'Vocal Vinyl' film was one of 10 films shortlisted from throughout the UK to be showcased as part of Guy Ritchie's Film for Youth Competition.
