Green light for controversial park and ride plan

A CONTROVERSIAL scheme to develop a park and ride facility just yards from Sandyknowes roundabout in Glengormley has been given the go-ahead by planners.
However, one local councillor who has consistently opposed the plan this week claimed that Roads Service may not have the funds available to progress the heavily criticised project.
The scheme to install almost 100 car parking spaces at Ballyhenry Road - right beside the borough’s busiest junction - was given the green light at this week’s council committee meeting, despite nearly 900 objections having been lodged against it.
Alliance councillor, alderman John Blair, a long-standing critic of the plan, which has been passed around the planning process for nearly 10 years, told the Times: “It may come as a relief to those affected that the funding may not be there for it.”
