Insurance company backs local ambulance charity

A GLENGORMLEY insurance company has made a generous donation to a local ambulance and community transport charity.

E.A Davies & Co. on Hightown Road has provided financial assistance to help Glengormley Ambulance and Rescue Unit purchase and refurbish a second hand ambulance.

The voluntary service, run by Glengormley man Don Kirk, provides ambulance and community transport to people throughout Newtownabbey and beyond, transporting more than 350 people with healthcare needs to and from hospital and other appointments every month. The Unit also provides ambulance cover at many public, sporting and social events throughout the year.

Donald Davies, Managing Director of E.A Davies & Co, commented: “We are glad to support this worthwhile project as there is a great need for more community transport in the Newtownabbey area. Hopefully this ambulance will help meet that need.”

Mr Kirk, the Chief Station Officer, expressed his gratitude to E.A Davies for their continuing support.

“Glengormley Ambulance management and staff are very grateful to E.A Davies. This new ambulance will be a major asset to us and will allow us to advance our service in the community.”

Meanwhile, due to the level of demand on their services, Glengormley Ambulance and Rescue Unit is on the look-out for more volunteers.

The Unit currently requires trainee ambulance staff, trainee ambulance drivers, cadet crew members (age 11 - 15) and other volunteers.

Full training will be provided for all posts. Anyone interested in volunteering should telephone 9059 3578 or email: glengormley.ambulance@ntlworld.com
