Men charged with drugs offences

TWO men, aged 28 and 24, have appeared in court charged with a number of offences including cultivating and possessing a class B drug.

The charges relate to the discovery a suspected cannabis factory at Ards Park, Monkstown on Thursday morning (August 12). Suspected cannabis plants with an estimated cultivated value of 15,000 were seized from the property along with associated equipment.

Deputy Mayor Tommy Kirkham and East Antrim Progressive Unionist Party spokesman Phil Hamilton praised residents and community leaders in the estate for providing the police with information leading to the raid at the property.

"Drugs have no place in our society and I hope the actions of the residents and community representatives of Monkstown will encourage other communities in Newtownabbey and beyond to report this sort of activity to the police without fear," Mr Hamilton commented.

Alderman Kirkham praised the community and the PSNI for their quick response and their ongoing efforts at trying to eradicate drugs from the local community.
