Nominations closed for ‘Person to be Proud of’ competition

A WIDE range of local people have been nominated to receive the prestigious title of ‘Person to be Proud of’.

In recent weeks, the Newtownabbey Times has asked readers to nominate people in their local community that they can be proud of; be it someone who goes that extra mile to care for a friend or a neighbour who got up early during the snowy weather to clear the road for everyone.

Nominees in the East Antrim area include a full-time carer, a social worker, a local volunteer, an Irish dancing school tutor and a charity worker. A local councillor was also nominated for his work in the community.

Nominations are now closed and the winner will be revealed soon.

Local natural gas supplier, firmus energy, is supporting the competition. The company recently connected its 50,000th customer in Northern Ireland to the lower-cost, convenient fuel. firmus energy prides itself on its excellent customer service record. With 90 team members in its Antrim headquarters, all employees are trained to the highest standards and the organisation prides itself on providing excellent service to its customers.

Michael Scott, general manager for firmus energy said: “Our employees work together very well to help each other, much like people living alongside each other in a community.

“We know that some go well beyond what is expected of them and in firmus energy, we recognise this.

“We are delighted to support this competition, acknowledging the unsung heroes across Northern Ireland for whom helping others is a way of life. This competition aims to recognise just some of those individuals and highlight how their selfless actions benefit other local people.”
