‘Partnership approach is key to halting interface trouble’

NEWTOWNABBEY’S new PSNI Area Commander, Temporary Chief Inspector Derek McCamley, has vowed to tackle the scourge of sectarian violence which has plagued areas across the borough.

Crowds of teenage yobs who regularly clash in interface areas such as Valley Park, Whiteabbey and Glengormley have been making people’s lives a misery in recent years. But the new police chief says he’s determined to get to grips with the problem.

With the violence traditionally getting worse when young people are off schools for the summer, the new Area Commander told the Times that he is working with his Inspectors to formulate plans to deal with the ongoing trouble in the borough’s interface areas.

“I will be looking at patrolling patterns to make sure that interface areas have police cover, but not at the expense of the rest of the Newtownabbey policing area,” he said.
