Roll your sleeves up for world record attempt
A SPECIAL tree planting event will take place at Sixmilewater Park, Ballyclare next Saturday (December 5), giving everyone the chance to do their bit for National Tree Week.
As part of the BBC Breathing Places’ tree planting initiative, everyone is being invited to come along to the park and get digging to help the UK set a new world record for the most trees planted in one hour (11am - 12 noon).
Anyone planning on attending the event, which is being co-ordinated locally by Newtownabbey Borough Council and the Woodland Trust, is asked to be at the park for 10.45am.
Michelle McCaughtry, events officer with the Woodland Trust, explained: “We’re delighted to be playing a part in this momentous UK-wide venture. Local schools are paving the way by planting trees in the run up to the event.
“Then it will be all hands on deck on Saturday when we really hope that members of the public will turn out in full force at Sixmilewater Park.”
Tree planters are advised to wrap up warm and bring welly boots or stout footwear.
All children must be accompanied by an adult.
To find out more about the event contact the council’s Biodiversity Officer, Lindsay Matthews, on 9034 0069.
