Stacey competes for Miss Earth title

A NEW Mossley teenager has been selected to represent Newtownabbey in the final of a UK-wide beauty contest with a difference.

Stacey Haskins, a former pupil of Glengormley High School, found out last week that she will be representing the borough at the final of the Miss Earth competition in Blackpool in September.

The 18-year-old from Ballyearl Terrace has been named Miss Earth Newtownabbey 2010 by the competition's judges.

The Miss Earth contest aims to find 'green, glam and gorgeous' beauties who are dedicated to working within their local communities and are keen to promote environmental issues.

During their participation, contestants are required to raise funds for a chosen charity, promote a healthy environment and educate people on the three Rs - Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

"I wanted to get involved with Miss Earth for a very long time as I love helping my community and I thought that this would be a chance to make a change within the community I live in. I never thought they would have got back to me, but when they did I was so happy," Stacey said.
