Sun shines for riverside stroll
GROUPS from Monkstown and Whiteabbey enjoyed a successful stroll along the Newtownabbey Way between Glenville Road and Monkstown on Sunday (March 7).
The sun was shining for the walk, which was the first of a number of planned events aiming to promote the new walking and cycling route.
Parents, toddlers children and teenagers were joined by community leaders Ann Judson and Margaret King, Lynsey Matthews from Newtownabbey Borough Council and councillor Ken Robinson as they explored the section of the pathway which runs under the railway viaducts at Bleachgreen and alongside the Threemilewater River.
Councillor Robinson, Chairman of the Steering Group developing the route, commented: “This event shows how communities working together can improve the quality of life for all.
“I would congratulate the members of Whiteabbey and Monkstown Community Groups for their initiative and determination in putting on this highly successful event which I know will be the first of many to be held along this increasingly busy walking and cycle path.”
