Sweeney Todd proves a huge hit with first audience

SOME lucky locals got a sneak preview of the Northern Ireland premiere of Sweeney Todd on Friday (January 29), as dress rehearsals got under way at the newly built Theatre at The Mill.

There was an air of excitement as the first audience took their seats in the impressive new theatre at Mossley Mill to see internationally acclaimed Peter Corry star as the dark and troubled Sweeney Todd, alongside comedienne and actress Nuala McKeever playing the inventive Mrs Lovett.

Commenting on the evening, Colin Dawson from Patterson's Spade Mill said: "Congratulations to Newtownabbey Borough Council on its new ultra-modern first class facility, 'Theatre at The Mill', which is very welcoming and has easy parking. I found the performance of Sweeney Todd most enjoyable with very good sound effects."

Norma Wilson from Newtownabbey Music Club added: "Theatre at The Mill is very impressive and I enjoyed watching Nuala McKeever and Peter Corry on stage. They were excellent."

The Northern Ireland premiere of Stephen Sondheim's gleefully macabre musical took place on Tuesday night (February 2). The show will run at the Theatre at The Mill until February 13.

Tickets priced from just 10 are available by calling the box office on 9034 0202 or by booking online at www.theatreatthemill.com
