Tributes paid to founder of engineering firm
EAST Antrim MLA Alastair Ross has paid tribute to Fred Wilson OBE, who died last week at the age of 84.
The DUP man said that Mr Wilson, the founder of FG Wilson engineering, had made a massive impact in the local area and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
FG Wilson is one of the largest businesses in East Antrim, employing hundreds of people at its bases in Larne and Monkstown.
“Fred Wilson grew his business up from modest beginnings in 1966 to become an internationally renowned company supplying generators to firms around the world.
“The FG Wilson name will continue to be a reminder of his tireless work and will serve as a tribute to his success,” Mr Ross said.
Mr Wilson sold the firm in 1995 and last year was awarded an OBE for his contribution to entrepreneurship and engineering.
“His vision and enterprise have left a strong legacy at this company,” FG Wilson Managing Director Mark Sweeney said.
Employment Minister Sir Reg Empey described Mr Wilson as one of the Province’s leading industrialists and “a tireless champion of Northern Ireland’s cause in the global marketplace.”
