A MACEDON councillor has called for the immediate removal of ‘threatening graffiti’ from the entrance to a new social housing development in the Bawnmore area.

Sinister slogans daubed on a wall and a fence at Bawnmore Drive include ‘Local Houses for Local People’ and ‘KAH’ (Kill all Huns).

Councillor Thomas Hogg condemned those responsible for the graffiti and called on the housing association building the development to remove it immediately.

Speaking after visiting the area, the DUP representative said: “I was contacted recently by a young mother who was offered a property in the new social housing development at Bawnmore Drive. When she visited the area she was horrified to see these threatening slogans daubed at the entrance to the estate. I have no doubt that this is an attempt by narrow minded individuals to intimidate certain sections of the community from moving into the area.”

He added: “As a new social housing development the properties ought to be offered to those in most need, regardless of community background. Bawnmore Drive is a quiet cul-de-sac, detached from other areas and a prime setting for a mixed housing development.”
