Young people get on their bikes for a good cause
A GROUP of young people from Longlands, Bawnmore and Rathcoole took on a gruelling 24-hour cycle challenge to raise funds for Children in Need on Friday (November 20).
The event, organised by Longlands Youth Project and supported by the NEELB local area youth team, involved 24 young people racing on static bikes at Mill Green Youth Centre.
Competing in four teams of six, the cross-community cyclists aged between 12 and 20 years cycled non stop from 5pm on Friday until the same time the following day.
With each of the groups covering more than 400km during the course of the time trial, the young people are confident that their efforts will raise more than 850 for Children in Need.
Area Youth Worker, Fiona Nelson, congratulated everyone who helped make the fundraiser such a great success.
“The group would like to extend its thanks to Mill Green Youth Centre, Garry Brown, Regional Manager of Breathe Fitness, for donating the bikes to the event, and Newtownabbey Council for their support in supplying refreshments for the evening. Well done to all, especially the young people in making it happen,” she said.
