Young people help transform community centre
A GROUP of 16 young people from the Prince's Trust project spent last week transforming the interior of Ballyduff Community Centre.
The young people worked hard painting, decorating and creating a new children's toy corner within the community facility.
"In addition to the hard physical work the young people put in over the course of the week, they also spent the previous week fundraising so that they could make a children's toy corner which will enable children to play happily whilst their parents attend courses and programmes in the centre," explained Stephanie McVicker, Co-Ordinator at Ballyduff Community House.
"When I saw the efforts that these brilliant young people had gone to I felt quite tearful. I cannot thank them enough for what they have done on behalf of the local community here and I can't wait for the first children to come through the door to see what's in store for them," she added.
Donna Beattie, one of the course participants, revealed why she and the other young people had got involved with the initiative.
"We wanted to do this because we though it would be nice to put something back into the local community," she said.
Mayor John Scott, who attended a celebration lunch on Friday to mark the completion of the project, praised all those involved for their hard work.
"I cannot believe what these wonderful young people have accomplished in such a short time. The room has been transformed by their colourful art and is a much more welcoming place for children to play," he commented.
Nuala Boyle from the Prince's Trust said she was "very impressed with the team and their efforts", adding that the week had been "a great success."
