‘Machete’ robbery at Newtownabbey restaurant

A masked man armed with a machete-type knife has robbed a fast food restaurant in Newtownabbey’s Church Road.

An elderly female customer who was pushed over during the incident received medical treatment for severe shock.

The incident occurred just before 5pm on the evening of Tuesday December 2.

The man entered the restaurant, jumped over the counter and took the drawer from the till.

The till drawer was dropped inside the premises as he made off empty handed, running towards Rathcoole estate.

The man was described as being in his 20s, of slim build and wearing dark clothing and a mask.

Detective Inspector David Skelly has appealed for anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any information to contact CID in Newtownabbey on 101. Information can also be passed anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
