Social Development Minister, Nelson McCausland has announced funding of more than £200,000 towards establishing a nurture unit in Rathcoole Primary School.

The commitment of £209,000 towards the cost of setting up and staffing the nurture unit was made during a visit by the Minister to the estate last week.

Speaking at Rathcoole on Wednesday, September 14, Mr McCausland said: “Providing help and support to parents and children to get the best out of their education is crucial for their future life chances. The provision of a nurture unit was identified as a top priority by the Partnership for improving the daily lives and opportunities of people in the area. I know that the project will be welcomed and I look forward to making a return visit when the nurture unit is up and running.”

Minister McCausland met with members of the local Neighbourhood Renewal Partnership at the Dunanney Centre to discuss issues affecting local residents before taking a walking tour of the Diamond area to see for himself some of the ongoing problems as well as some positive changes made in recent times.
