THE COUNCIL deputy chief executive has said there is money to carry out necessary repairs in the borough’s leisure centres.
At the recent Leisure Committee councillors approved and welcomed a near £6,000 spend on replacing lockers in Sixmile Leisure Centre.
Councillor Mark Cosgrove said he had been contacted by people who used the facility and were told by its staff that there was not the money to carry out repairs.
Deputy chief executive Hugh Kelly replied: “That would not be correct. There are no repairs needed that I am aware of, however I will look into this.
“It is not right to say there is not the money to carry out necessary repairs and maintenance as we do compensate for that in our budgets every year.”
Councillor Cosgrove said the message should be passed on to staff at the leisure centre.
