NORTH Belfast MP Nigel Dodds has hailed the approval of the drug Abiraterone in Northern Ireland.
The drug is beneficial for the treatment of men with advanced prostate cancer.
On Tuesday, July 24 the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety endorsed the decision of the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence to provide Abiraterone for use on the NHS in Northern Ireland.
Mr Dodds, who has been lobbying the Health Ministers at Stormont and Whitehall for over two years regarding the licensing and approval of the drug, said: “This is a significant development for men who are battling with advanced prostate cancer. This drug has been proven to extend life and to improve the quality of life when cancer has spread beyond the prostate.”
