New season for historians

BALLYCLARE Historical Society will get a new season of talks and lectures under way on Tuesday, September 11 at 7.30pm in the Hall of the Old Presbyterian Church on Main Street.

Membership for the year costs £10 and should be paid to the Hon. Treasurer, Sandy Sherrard. The charge for anyone attending a single meeting is £2 on the night.

This year’s Chairperson is Janette McKendry and she has been busy over the summer months arranging topics for the monthly meetings, which will be held on the second Tuesday of each month. The topic for the September meeting is the story of the prefabs at Millvale. The speaker will be Jim Hunter.

The October meeting, scheduled for Tuesday 9, is to be held in the new Parochial Hall on the Doagh Road. The meeting will be an Open Night when visitors will be welcome to attend without charge and share their reminisces or memories about life in the past in the valley of the Ollar.

Arrangements have already been made for the April 2013 meeting - an illustrated talk on a bicycle trip around the Scottish island of Islay.

New members will be most welcome at the opening night next week at the Old Presbyterian Church Hall.
