The scheme, which aims to create a more modern and convenient experience, covers 8,000 Post Offices across the United Kingdom.

Some of the changes set for the branch on the Antrim Road will include, new opening hours of 6am-11pm from Monday to Sunday, the creation of a low level serving counter for people in wheelchairs and the creation of extra serving positions to help ease long queues.

Welcoming the news, North Belfast MP Nigel Dodds said: “Glengormley Post Office is one of the busiest and most visited in the local network and these improvements will benefit many customers. The new opening hours will make the service much more accessible, particularly for local businesses and residents who struggled to avail of the service based upon the previous opening hours.

“The creation of a more user friendly service is very much welcome, in particular the creation of a new low serving counter for wheelchair users.

“While the Post Office will be closed for a few days in August to allow the work to be carried out, I am confident the end product will be very much welcomed by customers.

“I will continue to work with the Post Office to ensure the people of North Belfast receive the best possible experience when using this vital service.”
