Police issue warning about illegal use of scramblers and quads

The warning comes after Newtownabbey Police received reports of off-road vehicles being used illegally in the Loughshore area on Sunday (July 31) and in Rushpark on Tuesday (August 2).

Police have stepped up their efforts to tackle the problem after a tragic incident at a Belfast park last month when a woman died after being struck by a scrambler motorbike.

“Despite tragic incidents that have occurred in recent times, we are continuing to receive reports from the community in relation to the illegal use or off-road motorcycles/quads in the Newtownabbey area,” said Sergeant Stewart.

“If those involved are stopped/identified committing offences they will be dealt with by police, which could result in prosecution and the seizure or disposal of the vehicle involved.”

Police have urged anyone who witnesses any illegal activity in relation to the misuse of scramblers or quads to report it by calling the non-emergency number, 101.
