Police issue warning to householders after bogus caller incident in Glengormley

Police are warning local householders to be wary of bogus callers after a man tried to trick his way into a woman's home in Glengormley on Wednesday, July 20.

The Glenvarna resident called police after “a suspicious male” called at her home claiming to be a fraud investigator from ‘Budget Electricity’.

“Subsequent checks have established that this male was a bogus caller and was possibly attempting to trick the resident to get into their property,” a PSNI spokesperson said.

Anyone who is uncertain about the identity of someone calling at their home should ask for ID and call the freephone Quick Check line on 0800 013 2290 to verify that the caller is genuine.

“If you believe the caller to be bogus, then contact the PSNI straight away, noting descriptions of the individuals, registrations of vehicle and direction of travel if relevant,” the police spokesperson added. “You would be justified in using 999 if you feel in immediate danger.

“Anyone who has any information that could assist with tackling this type of crime is requested to contact us on the non-emergency number 101. Information can also be passed anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
