Police probe Merville assault and arson attack in Rathcoole

Police in Newtownabbey are appealing for information after a man in his 20s was assaulted in Merville Garden Village on Wednesday, April 27.

“The victim was attacked in the Merville area at around 4pm by a man wearing a baseball cap,” Sergeant Rice explained. “It is understood another man was also present. The victim is being treated in hospital for injuries not believed to be life threatening.”

Meanwhile, police are also investigating a separate incident in the Carmeen Drive area of Rathcoole when a parked car was damaged by two males shortly before 11pm on April 27.

The males set the car on fire before running off.

Anyone with information about either incident is asked to contact police on the non-emergency number 101. Alternatively, information can be passed on anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
