Prestigious recognition for NI Hospice chair

Cllr Webb, who has been a trustee of NI Hospice for the past eight years, while serving as chair at the hospice for the past three years, was awarded the Trustee of the Year award at the CO3 Leadership Awards ceremony.

The awards recognise the talent, innovation and success of leaders of a number of groups including, community associations, self-help groups, voluntary organisations, charities, faith-based organisations and social enterprises.

Speaking after receiving the award, Cllr Webb said: “It came as a pleasant surprise when I received a letter telling me I was shortlisted for this award, as I didn’t know I had been nominated and I was delighted when they announced at the award ceremony that I was the winner. The other trustees of the hospice are very dedicated and professional people and it is with their help we are working towards giving Northern Ireland the best hospice care possible through the new service at Somerton Road and the Children’s Hospice in Newtownabbey and Enniskillen. This award is as much an acknowledgement of the work the other trustees do, as it is mine.”

At the monthly meeting of Antrim and Newtownabbey Council on Monday, February 29, Cllr Webb received praise from across the council chamber as Cllr Phillip Brett congratulated the Alliance representative for winning the prestigious accolade.

Cllr Brett said: “Billy and his team have done an excellent job raising funds for what is an excellent organisation. On behalf of the whole council I’d like to pay tribute to Billy for the richly deserved award.”
