The traditional contest was held in the Five Corners Guest Inn. This year the accolade was won by 20-year-old Rachael Coiley.

Rachael is currently a full time student at Queen’s University. She is nearing the end of her second year of a Criminology and Sociology degree. She is also working part time as a care assistant for adults with learning difficulties.

Rachael is a sub-officer in 162nd Ballynure Presbyterian Girls’ Brigade, where she takes the Juniors section. She has been a member of the GB since she was two-years-old. This summer she will volunteering with Camp Thailand. This will see her going to the country for six weeks to teach English in schools during the weekdays and volunteering in an elephant conservation sanctuary at the weekends.

Jessica Ross from Ballyclare finished in the runners-up position. Event organiser, Michelle McGuigan said: “There was close competition between Rachael and Jessica and it was very tight between them. Rachael was crowned the winner and she’ll now be a great ambassador for the town as she attends the events over the week. I’d like to thank everyone who came out and supported the event, as well as all of the sponsors. The May Fair was first granted in 1756 and I’d encourage everyone to come and enjoy this year’s festival as we mark the 260th year.”
