“I am so very happy that John has been chosen as the new Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey. He will make an outstanding contribution to the borough over the next year as he has done throughout his time on the old and new councils. He exemplifies the hard work of an on-the-ground councillor, with those in his DEA and beyond telling me on the doors how he has often gone above and beyond in assisting them with their issues.

“From my time on the old Antrim Council and throughout my term in Stormont and now at Westminster I have been able to rely upon John for his excellent support and invaluable local guidance. To see him honoured in this way really makes me proud of an esteemed colleague and a personal friend.”

Assemblyman Steve Aiken OBE echoed Mr Kinahan’s sentiments, saying: “Over the last several months, campaigning in areas like Ballyduff, Mossley etc I have become very familiar with Cllr Scott and his hard work; mostly through the endless praise of constituents for a truly hard-working representative. I have no doubt that John will make an outstanding contribution in his time as our first Ulster Unionist Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey.”

“I certainly look forward to working with him, as I have throughout the election campaign, on issues facing the people of South Antrim. I am glad I have the opportunity to work with a man with such a record of delivery.”
