Macedon Councillor Thomas Hogg has described the theft of the Union flag from outside the Valley Leisure Centre at the weekend as “a very provocative act.”
The flag was ripped from the flagpole sometime on Friday night or the early hours of Saturday.
A replacement flag was erected by council staff on Saturday morning.
“This was a very provocative act that will greatly offend the vast majority of people in Newtownabbey,” Alderman Hogg said.
“I can assure those responsible that their actions will in no way affect the council’s policy of flying the Union flag at the leisure centre every day of the year,” the DUP man added.
