A P1 pupil at Mossgrove Primary School is recovering after being struck in the eye when an egg was thrown into the school’s playground.

The five-year-old child sustained a minor injury to the right side of her face and swelling to her eye after the incident, which occurred at approximately 1.20pm on Thursday May 21.

Police in Newtownabbey are investigating the incident which they said had “greatly upset the child.”

A PSNI spokesperson said that the egg “reportedly came out of nowhere” with no-one seeing who threw the object.

He stated: “This may have seemed like a bit of fun at the time to the person who did this, but this has resulted in an injury and serious trauma to a young child.”

The PSNI said that they had been making door-to-door enquiries while investigating the incident.

Police are now appealing for anyone with information to contact them on 101.
