TRANSPORT Minister Danny Kennedy has claimed that the proposed new park and ride at Ballyhenry Road will “provide an attractive alternative for car drivers”.

Announcing that Roads Service is to push ahead with the much-maligned scheme, the UUP man stressed that the initiative is part of his department’s ongoing commitment to encourage sustainable travel.

“The scheme will provide an alternative for private car commuters that currently pass the site approaching the Sandyknowes roundabout to join the M2 for their journey into Belfast.

“The scheme, which recently was given planning approval, will cost £250,000 and construction is planned to commence before Christmas,” he confirmed.
