GDP per capita is often used as an indicator of a country’s material standard of living. Here are three points to indicate God’s riches towards us - Giver, Deliverance and Promise.

Romans 8:32 says “He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall He not with him also freely give us all things?”

The Great Giver – God who gives us life, and every good and perfect gift, gave us His most precious gift, He that spared not His own son. God gave Jesus for our salvation.

The Great Deliverance – But delivered Him up for us all.

When you look up the word deliver in the dictionary it has a number of different meanings. For example, it can mean:

• Give birth (to a newborn)

Now God delivered Jesus to earth as He was born as a little baby. When Mary gave birth to Jesus she delivered Him into this world. This is true but it’s not the sense in which God is speaking of here.

• Bring to a destination, make a delivery.

When I think of the word deliver, I automatically think of the postman, who delivers the mail. He collects it from one place and it’s his job to make sure that it is delivered to the correct address. God made sure that Jesus was delivered in exactly the right place.

However I still don’t think that this is really what this verse is speaking about here. Another meaning of the word delivered is:

• To surrender someone or something to another. And I think this is getting closer to what this verse is speaking of here. God the Father surrendered God the son to this world for our sins. Another meaning of deliver is:

• Hand over to the authorities of another country.

This is what this verse is speaking of. That Jesus was delivered over to the authority of this world.

Acts 2:23 says “Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain.”

That’s what this verse is speaking of. Jesus being delivered into the hands of men, who would crucify him with their own hands.

The Great Promise – how shall He not with him freely give us all things?

God is wanting to bless you, but we must receive His gift, the greatest gift He offers, His son Jesus.

Have you received God’s gift of His son into your life?
