NEWTOWNABBEY bus driver Paula McAllister was named ‘Bus Driver of the Year’ at the recent Federation of Passenger Transport, Northern Ireland (FPTNI) Annual Awards.
The Ulsterbus driver was rewarded by the judges for setting “an exceptional standard” during her 18 years with Translink.
Gerry Mullan, Translink’s Service Delivery Manager for Newtownabbey, commented: “I must congratulate Paula on her recent achievement. She has excellent customer care skills and passengers are continually asking about her and telling us that it is a pleasure to travel on her bus. She is a perfect ambassador for Ulsterbus, with many great attributes, making her a worthy recipient of this award.”
Translink collected four awards in total, including the Transport Innovation Award for the iLink Smartcard initiative, the Support Function Award for the Metro Saturdays marketing campaign and the Health and Safety Award.
FPTNI is the trade body promoting the use of public transport and represents leading bus and coach operators across Northern Ireland.
Speaking about the awards, Karen Magill, the organisation’s Chief Executive, said: “These awards celebrate the passenger transport industry and recognise and reward the hard work, commitment and devotion of the men and women who make up the public transport industry.
“Despite the downturn in the economy, FPTNI members still managed to improve their offer for passengers and will continue to deliver and rise to the challenges for the industry in 2012.”
