A COMMUNITY playgroup has made an urgent appeal for help to find new premises after weekend flooding forced them out of their Mallusk home.

The call comes after two nights of sustained rainfall brought flooding and misery to many parts of Newtownabbey.

Ballyclare residents too were left counting the cost of the downpours after their homes flooded. Church services were disrupted and roads were closed around the borough because of the torrential rain.

The Fire Service has been praised for its quick response in getting to people and helping them deal with rising water levels, but criticism was levelled at government departments for failing to provide essential emergency provision for residents on Sunday evening.

Mallusk Community Playgroup, which is a registered charity, was forced to close its doors to its 30 children on Monday, (October 24), after Sunday night’s flood.
