A local councillor has called on the police to crack down on speeding motorists in the Jordanstown area.
Alliance Party representative Tom Campbell has raised concerns with senior police officers about drivers speeding on residential streets such as Jordanstown Road and Circular Road.
“The police are aware of the problems and have indicated that an increased presence may at least deter speed in the area. I have emphasised the requirement to see more mobile speed traps to identify and prosecute those breaking the law.
“The speed of vehicles is a major factor in road traffic accidents and casualties, but unfortunately that message may not have got across to some motorists which means that there is a need for police speed traps,” Cllr Campbell said.
“It should be remembered that although these may be arterial routes, they are also residential areas used by pedestrians.”
