Police hand over £5,000 to Payback scheme

NEWTOWNABBEY CID have submitted £5,000 of cash seized under the Proceeds of Crime Act to the Home Office ‘Payback’ scheme.

The money was found during the search of a car on Shore Road in Whiteabbey and a number of follow up searches in Jordanstown and Belfast in September 2011. A quantity of cocaine and CS spray were also recovered during the search of the car and the vehicle itself was subsequently seized by police.

The car will now be auctioned off and the proceeds made available to teams within the PSNI to tackle crime and local community concerns. The money submitted to the Home Office will also be made available to law enforcement agencies through the ‘Payback’ scheme in order to benefit communities.
