Praise for young science students

Education Minister John O’Dowd welcomed pupils from two local schools to a special reception for Northern Ireland entrants to the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition 2012.

Science students from Ballyclare High School and Edmund Rice College were among pupils from more than 30 schools across the province who attended the event on Wednesday, December 7.

The BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition 2012 has seen a total of 1,743 entries, with 75 projects entered from Northern Ireland.

A total of 16 schools and one college have qualified to compete in the finals at the RDS, Dublin in January 2012, including two teams from Ballyclare High School.

Lisa Patterson and Amy Russell will show off their project about creating an audio speaker from a strip of aluminium foil, while Meg McWhirter and Rebekah McNeill will exhibit their project which investigates food contamination from mineral oil.
