A TOTAL of 162 Housing Executive homes in Rathcoole are set for a £660,000 external makeover.
The planned maintenance contract recently awarded will include replacing defective window frames with double glazed units and servicing and repairing others at Carmeen Drive, Clonbeg Drive, Clonmore Walk, Clonmore Green, Coolderry Gardens and Crossreagh Drive.
The Housing Executive will also take the opportunity to replace any defective external doors and carry out necessary repairs to roofs, chimneys, fencing and paths as well as repainting the properties.
Welcoming the contract, Sharon Crooks, Housing Executive Newtownabbey 1 District Manager, explained: “It is great to see this work starting in Rathcoole, protecting the external fabric of tenants’ homes and, in doing so, giving an overall facelift to the area.
“Properties involved are located in the west of the estate. This work and investment further exemplifies the Housing Executive’s ongoing commitment to Newtownabbey and the Rathcoole community.
“District Office staff and our contractor, Dixons Ltd, will keep in touch with tenants as work progresses so that they are fully aware of plans for their homes and to deal with any queries they may have. As always, it is our aim to ensure that the work is carried out to the standards set in order to achieve a high level of customer satisfaction.”
Sharon Crooks also welcomed a second contract for the District which will see 34 original gas heating back boilers replaced with more efficient wall hung boilers in homes mainly in the Whiteabbey area of Abbeyglen and Glenville, together with a small number in Bleachgreen. This contract will represent a further £219,000 investment in Newtownabbey by the Housing Executive.
